Nearly half a million
jobs, directly and indirectly,
are created through operations
in the port of New York
and New Jersey. And these
jobs are not solely located
at the port. Tens of thousands
of jobs require workers
in a multitude of private and public sector jobs,
stretching across our region
and out over the nation.
Among these jobs are included
those related to water
transportation, wholesaling
and warehousing, banking,
insurance, freight forwarding,
and state and local government.
And the number of jobs
is growing. Since 2001,
5,000 new jobs have been
added in the port itself.
